How do I know if my ducts are leaking?
Rooms that never get comfortable, a dusty house, high bills and a furnace or AC that runs long are the common signs. In attics and basements you can often see it: disconnected joints, crushed flex duct, or tape that has dried out and fallen off.
Why is one room always hotter or colder than the rest?
Usually the duct to that room is too small, too long, disconnected or uninsulated where it runs through an attic or crawl space. Sometimes the room simply has no return. Tracing the run shows which one it is.
Is duct tape the right way to seal ducts?
No. Cloth duct tape dries out and lets go within a few years. Joints should be sealed with mastic or foil tape rated for ductwork, and runs in unconditioned attics should be insulated.
Can you add ductwork to a house that has radiators?
Sometimes, using closets, attics and basements for the runs. When there is no good path, a ductless mini-split or a small-duct high-velocity system is the cleaner option. We look at the house and lay out the choices.
Should my ducts be cleaned?
Duct cleaning helps after renovation dust, a rodent problem or visible mold. It is not a fix for poor airflow. Leaks, undersized runs and missing returns cause far more comfort problems than dirt does.
